Management in Rice and Fish Farming
Paddy Preparation, Management in Rice and Fish Farming:- For
rice-fish farming the traditional rice fields needs some modification
and required to have trenches (deepened areas), channels, canals or sumps. These water
refuge area (approx.. 15% of the rice fields) provide shelter to fish when water
levels are low, and helps for food passageways and during harvesting etc.
Fish Management in Rice and Fish Farming:- The
main management activities of fish culture in paddy fields are given below and
these basically depend on fish species, stocking density etc.
·
Fish stocking density: 5000-6000 nos./ha.
·
Feeding: generally dependent on natural foods (plankton,
benthos, insects and other larvae, weeds and decomposed organic matters) available in the rice fields
·
Harvesting of fish: 300-1000 Kg of fish depending period of
retention of water in the fields, suitable managements etc. .
·
Re-stocking: If multiple harvesting done, then periodically
restocking of stunted fingerlings provides good profits.
