THELERIOSIS
Tick borne protozoan disease caused
by Theileria In cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats.
European breeds of cattle are more
susceptible than Zebu breeds.
Clinical Signs
- Fever
- Loss in appetite
- Cessation of rumination
- Reduction in milk yield
- Enlargement of superficial
lymph nodes.
- Dry muzzle
- Rough hair coat
- Salivation
- Excessive lacrimation
- Respiratory distress may follow
pulmonary edema
- Death may result from asphyxia.
Diagnosis
- Demonstration of organisms in
RBCs and lymphocytes (Koch’s bodies).
- Smears of enlarged lymph nodes
are found in biopsy.
- Stained with Giemsa
- Complement fixation
- Indirect haemagglutination
- Immunofluorescence
- ELISA
Treatment-
- Buparvaquone @ 2.5 mg/kg BW
