THELERIOSIS

Tick borne protozoan disease caused by Theileria In cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats.

European breeds of cattle are more susceptible than Zebu breeds.

Clinical Signs

  • Fever
  • Loss in appetite
  • Cessation of rumination
  • Reduction in milk yield
  • Enlargement of superficial lymph nodes.
  • Dry muzzle
  • Rough hair coat
  • Salivation
  • Excessive lacrimation
  • Respiratory distress may follow pulmonary edema
  • Death may result from asphyxia.

Diagnosis

  • Demonstration of organisms in RBCs and lymphocytes (Koch’s bodies).
  • Smears of enlarged lymph nodes are found in biopsy.
  • Stained with Giemsa
  • Complement fixation
  • Indirect haemagglutination
  • Immunofluorescence
  • ELISA

Treatment-

  • Buparvaquone @ 2.5 mg/kg BW deep i/m on the neck muscle
