Scope, potential and limitations
- Maize
is grown on around 2.8 lakh hectares in Odisha of that kharif maize alone
accounts for about 2.6 Lakh hectares.
- Crop
has a huge potential in the agricultural output of not only south Odisha but
also the entire state.
- Rice-maize
cropping sequence is followed either in double or triple cropping systems.
- Although annual N2O emissions increased two- to threefold in the diversified systems, the strong reduction in CH 4 led to a significant reduction in annual GWP (CH4+N2O ) as compared to the traditional double-rice cropping system
- Major limitations are unavailability of quality seeds, lack of roper weed and nutrient management strategies
