Surface irrigation is an age-old practice of providing irrigation water to the field and highly followed method of irrigation in the world. In this method water is applied through the action of gravity, sometimes the whole field is flooded (e.g. check basin) or the water is applied to small channels (e.g. channel to the field) or in strips (e.g. border strip).In these cases,irrigation application efficiency rarely exceeds over 45%- 60%.
