Agroforestry
Agroforestry is defined as the integration of woody perennials with herbaceous
crops and/or animals over space or time, on the same land management unit. For mitigating the adverse
effects of climate change, the adoption of agroforestry systems can also be a viable
option for specific situations. It provides timbers and fuelwood which provides
a long-term and stable income to the farmers.
It acts as a carbon sink and can benefit the poor smallholders the
benefits of carbon credits if it is incorporated in a suitable carbon scheme
projects. Agroforestry is a realistic and low-cost alternative for implementing
many types of integrated land management (which aims to minimize the impacts of
human on land), and it adds to a green economy by promoting long-term,
sustainable, and renewable forest management, particularly for small-scale
producers.
