Dugout pond
Dugout
ponds are made by digging the soil from a piece of land and the dugout soil is
used to make embankment around the pond. The pond is filled by surface runoff.
In this technique of surface groundwater recharge, ponds are dug before the monsoon.
During monsoon, the runoff water is stored in the pond for not only for
domestic and irrigation uses, but also percolate down gradually to recharge the
groundwater.
