FASCIOLOSIS
- This is caused due to the
infection of FasciolagiganticaandFasciola hepatica.
- These organisms are found in
bile duct and intestine of the mammals
- The definitive hosts are cattle
and buffalo and intermediate hosts are freshwater snails.
- Location of the organism: Bile
duct, gall bladder and liver
- Clinical findings
- Acute infection
- Found in sheep.
- Sub-acute
- Pale mucous membrane.
- Sub-mandibular edema
- Ascites
- Chronic
- Loss of body condition
- Bottle jaw
- Hypoalbuminaemia
- Anaemia
- Reduced milk yield
- Increase GGT
(GammaGlutamylTransferase) level due to hepatic damage
- Treatment
- Triclabendazole @ 12 mg/kg bw
in cattle and 24 mg/kg bw in buffaloes
- Oxyclosanide @ 10 mg/kg bw in
cattle
- Albendazole @ 15 mg/kg bw in
cattle
