Pest/disease management
- Variety selected should be well adapted to soil and climatic conditions and possibly be inherently resistant to pests and diseases of the area.
- Application of suspension (2 L 10-12 days old cow urine, extraction of 2 kg fresh cow dung with 2 kg crushed neem leaves or 2 L vermiwash in 10 litres of water) will help in controlling rice blast and sucking insect pests.
- Spray of 5% neem seed kernel extract or 2 L ha-1 neem oil can be done to control leaf-eating caterpillars and leaf folder.
- Rope method along with the spreading of chopped pieces of Colacasia and Citrus grandis all over the field is used to control rice case worm.
- Light traps can be used to control brown plant hopper and yellow stem borer.
- Frequent drying and flooding practices of the field helps to prevent the incidence of soil-borne pathogens and the incidence of devastating false smut.
- Sanjeevak/ Jeevamrut amended with of neem seed/ leaf extract (2 kg) control YSB
- Trichogramma cards for parasitoid for YSB
- Spreading leaves of Sphaeranthus indicus and Cleistanthus collinus, Calotropis gigantea for repelling leaf folders, gall midge and BPH, respectively.
- Spray admixture of neem oil and pongam oil (1:4) for GLH
- Leaf extract of Lasiosiphon eriocephalus for BPH
- Neem cake (42–50 kg) as basal manure for YSB
- Rust/virus: A mixture of 1 L of buttermilk, 1 L of cow’s urine in 8 L of water.
- Rice blast: Boil 1 kg of tulsi leaves in 2 L of water. Strain and spray the solution twice at 15-days interval (@ 2 mL/L of water).10% cow urine extract (twice in 10 days).
- Rice brown leaf spot: 10% vermiwash + 5% cow urine in 10 L of water
- Mint leaf extract (20%) for 1 day (Seed treatment).
- Spreading the mature leaves of Cleistanthus collinus in the field (25 q/ha) and let them to decay. Moisten the field after 3 days.
- Dusting of ashes check the diseases.
- Bacterial leaf blight: Prepare slurry of 20 kg of cow dung with 200 L of water. Filter the mixture and again dilute with 50 L of water and then spray the aliquot obtained after standing.
