Identification Symptoms
- Young larva feeds on the
leaves for some time and then attacks squares and bolls.
- Internal tissues are eaten severely and
completely hollowed out.
- While feeding, the
caterpillar thrust its head inside leaving the rest of the body outside.
- Fed leaves shoot and buds.
- “Flared or open” squares.
- Bolls are bored at the base
of flower buds which are hollowed out, bracts of damaged flower buds spread out
and curl down wards.
- Premature boll opening and
shedding.
