Cultural Practices
- Plough the field by rotavator or cultivator to get a fine tilth
- Remove the weeds and crop stubbles before proper leveling for uniform germination and crop stand
- In heavily infested areas, adopt a stale seedbed technique using repeated mechanical destruction of weeds
- Recommended crop rotation
1. Intercropping of rice-groundnut/ blackgram/ greengram reduce the weed pressure in rainfed uplands, OR
2. Upland rice-sesamum - pigeon-pea - rice-horsegram (3 years’ rotation helps to reduce weed pressure, OR
3. Rice- blackgram/sesame to control Echinochloa colona and Cyperus difformis infestation, OR
4. Growing of cowpea as cover crops helps to reduce the early infestation of grassy weeds
