Rice is the principal food crop in Odisha occupying about 44.55 lakh ha annually (41.24 lakh ha. during Kharif season + 3.31 lakh ha. during Rabi season). The entire Rabi area is irrigated & covered by high yielding rice varieties whereas 36% of Kharif rice area is covered under irrigation.
