Drought

A drought is an event of prolonged shortages in the water supply, whether atmospheric (below-average precipitation), surface water or groundwater. The scarcity of rainfall and its poor distribution and prolonged long dry spell causes drought affecting crop productivity. Reduce supply of surface water due to inadequate rainfall or when demand is projected to exceed supply trigger the farmers to adopt a contingency plan for drought. Contingency measures differ with the stages of crop growth and associated farm practices.
