Seed treatment

Seed treatments are the biological, physical and chemical agents and techniques applied to seed to provide protection and improve the establishment of healthy crops. Seed treatments helps to increase germination and ensures uniform seedling emergence, and protect the seedlings from primary soil and seed-borne infestation. Seed treatment involves treating or subjecting seeds to various physical and chemical treatments to safeguard the seed from the soil-borne pathogens and increase the load of beneficial microorganisms in the rhizosphere of the plant to stimulate plant growth.

The details of seed treatment for control of insects-pests and seedborne diseases are discussed under the Integrated Disease Management and Integrated Insect pest Management sections under Plant protection.
