Cultural Management

  •  Removal and destruction of plant remnants, stubbles, debris after harvest and ploughing the field.
  •  Larval parasites Apanteles ruficrus, A. plutellae and pupal parasite Brachymeria excarinata suppress pest population.
  •  Foliar spray with 5% NSKE for killing the eggs. To obtain 5% neem seed extract, take extract from 5 Kg kernel powder in 100 litres of water. About 12.5 Kg kernel   powder is needed to cover 1 ha with 250 litres in high volume sprays.
  •  Foliar sprays on 30, 45 DAT with B. t. formulations 1 g/lit.
  •  Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki 2 g/lit
  •  Grow mustard as trap crop at 2:1 ratio (cabbage: mustard) to attract DBM for oviposition at least 10 days ahead of   planting of main crop
  •  Pheromone traps @ 12/ha
  •  Crop rotation with cucurbits, beans, peas, tomato and melon
  •  Larval parasitoid: Diadegma semiclausm @ 1,00,000/ha (Hills–below 25–27ºC) Cotesia plutellae (plains) at 20000/ha release from 20 days after planting
  •  The varieties having shiny leaves are moderately resistance to diamond back moth.
