- Rice being the major cereal crop of the region grown in three distinct season under different ecologies. Land type and water resources influences the rice season and culture.
- Upland rice is dominant in Rayagada and Kandhamal districts and short duration varieties like Khandagiri, Parijat, Anjali, Sahabhagidhan are popular among the farming community in drought prone areas.
- Early medium and
medium duration varieties are recommended for medium land. CR Dhan 202, CR Dhan
205, CR Dhan 206, CR Dhan 209 etc. are suitable aerobic rice for irrigated
medium land. Anjali, Rajlaxmi, Maudamani, Swarna, Pratikshya, Lalatetc are
suitable under shallow low land. In assured irrigated area cultivation of
summer rice is gaining popularity.
