Crop calendar for rice and other crops
- Besides rice, maize and wheat are other important cereal crops grown in kharif and rabi season respectively. Selection of suitable early/ medium duration rice varieties and appropriate time of planting ensures higher cropping intensity with the inclusion of short duration pulses, oil seeds and vegetables in rice fallow. Among the cropping systems, rice-based production system is dominant in the region.
- Rice-horsegram, rice-greengram, rice- blackgram, rice-rice, rice–chick pea, rice-field pea, rice-lentil, rice-groundnut, rice-mustard and rice-linseed are major cropping systems followed in the region.
- Drought, cyclone and floods are
major abiotic stresses influences the crop production in the region. Rice in rabiseason
suffers from cold stress at early growth stage and terminal heat stress at
maturity. Based on available growing period and ecology the crop calendar of
different crop and cropping systems are given sub category of rainfed and
irrigated.
