Pea / Bean

Pea is an important nutritious leguminous vegetable that is widely cultivated for its green pods throughout the world. Apart from having a small quantity of iron, it is a rich source of protein (25%), amino acids, sugars (12%), carbohydrate, vitamins A and C, calcium and phosphorus. Pea straw serves as a nutritious fodder. Major pea growing states in India are Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka. Chemical fertilizers are needed to get good crop yields, but their abuse can be harmful for the environment. Bio-fertilizers on the other hand are cost-effective and renewable source of plant nutrients to supplement the parts of chemical fertilizers. A judicious use of organic manures and biofertilizers may be effective not only sustaining crop productivity and in soil health, but also in supplementing chemical fertilizers of crop. Different types of bio-fertilizers that are taken into consideration are mentioned below :-

  1. Nitrogenous (N) bio-fertilizer
  2. Phosphatic (P) bio-fertilizer
  3. Potash (K) bio-fertilizer
